Easy Korean Level 10 - Unit 11: Advanced Situational Expressions (Complimenting)
In this lesson, we will learn how native speakers give compliments (μΉμ°¬) naturally. Rather than just saying "μ’μμ" (It's good) or "μν΄μ" (You do well), you can use these expressions to sound much more expressive and genuine.
1. Praising Effort or Skill: "You're a natural!"
When someone does something exceptionally well, seemingly without effort. - νκ³ λμ ¨λ€μ! (You were born with it! / You're a natural!) Usage: Great for complimenting someone's talent, like singing, cooking, or language skills. - μμ§μ΄ μμΌμλ€μ. (You have a talent/aptitude for this.)
2. Expressing Awe: "That's incredible!"
When something exceeds your expectations. - μ₯λ μλλ€μ! (It's no joke! -> It's incredible!) Note: Very casual/friendly expression. Only use with friends or close colleagues. - λλ°μ΄μμ! (It's a big hit! / That's awesome!) - μ΄λ»κ² κ·Έλ κ² μνμΈμ? (How do you do it so well?)
3. Complimenting Appearance (Politely)
Instead of just saying "μλ»μ" (You're pretty), you can use more specific or flattering phrases. - μ€λ μ€νμΌμ΄ μμ£Ό λ©μ§μλ€μ. (Your style is very cool/stylish today.) - 머리 νμ ¨λ€μ? λ무 μ μ΄μΈλ €μ. (Did you get your hair done? It suits you so well.) - μ μ μ μ΄μ§μλ κ² κ°μμ. (It seems like you are getting younger and younger. -> A highly appreciated compliment for older people!)
4. The Ultimate Praise: "I acknowledge you."
When you want to show deep respect for someone's abilities. - μ§μ§ μΈμ ν©λλ€. (I truly acknowledge you/it. -> You have my utmost respect.) - μμ [Name] μ¨λ€μ! (As expected of [Name]! / That's our [Name]!) Usage: When someone does something great and it lives up to their good reputation.
