Easy Korean Level 10 - Unit 20: Advanced Situational Expressions (Expressing Indifference)

In this lesson, we will look at how to express indifferenceβ€”when you don't care, it doesn't matter to you, or you want someone to mind their own business.

1. "It doesn't matter." / "Whatever."

When someone asks you a question and you don't have a preference. - μ•„λ¬΄κ±°λ‚˜ μƒκ΄€μ—†μ–΄μš”. (Anything is fine / It doesn't matter.) - μ–΄λ–»κ²Œ λ˜λ“  μƒκ΄€μ—†μ–΄μš”. (I don't care how it turns out.) - μ•„λ¬΄λ ‡κ²Œλ‚˜ ν•˜μ„Έμš”. (Do it however you want.)

2. "I don't care." / "It's none of my business."

When you want to distance yourself from a situation. - μ œκ°€ μ•Œ λ°” μ•„λ‹ˆμ—μš”. (It's not something for me to know -> It's none of my business.) - μ €λž‘ μƒκ΄€μ—†λŠ” μΌμ΄μ—μš”. (It's a matter that has nothing to do with me.) - 관심 μ—†μ–΄μš”. (I have no interest.)

3. "Mind your own business."

If someone is being nosy or interfering in your life. - μ‹ κ²½ λ„μ„Έμš”. (Turn off your attention. -> Mind your own business.) - μ•Œμ•„μ„œ ν• κ²Œμš”. (I'll take care of it myself.) - μ°Έκ²¬ν•˜μ§€ λ§ˆμ„Έμš”. (Don't interfere/meddle.)

4. "So what?"

A slightly aggressive way to show you are indifferent to what they just said. - κ·Έλž˜μ„œ 뭐 μ–΄μ©ŒλΌκ³ μš”? (So what do you want me to do about it?) - μ–΄μ©ŒλΌλŠ” 건지 λͺ¨λ₯΄κ² λ„€μš”. (I don't know what you want me to do.)

Example Dialogue

A: λ„ˆ 자꾸 κ·Έλ ‡κ²Œ 늦게 μΌμ–΄λ‚˜λ©΄ μ§€κ°ν•œλ‹€. μ–΄μ œλ„ 늦게 μž€μ§€? (If you keep waking up late like that, you'll be late for work. You slept late yesterday too, right?) B: λ‚΄ μΌμ΄λ‹ˆκΉŒ μ‹ κ²½ κΊΌ. λ‚΄κ°€ μ•Œμ•„μ„œ ν• κ²Œ. (It's my business so mind your own business. I'll take care of it.) A: λ‚˜λŠ” 널 κ±±μ •ν•΄μ„œ ν•˜λŠ” 말인데 μ™œ 그래? (I'm saying this because I'm worried about you, why are you being like this?) B: μƒκ΄€ν•˜μ§€ 마. (Don't concern yourself / Mind your business.)
