Easy Korean - Unit 25: Advanced Situational Expressions (Saying Goodbye / Wrapping up)
Easy Korean Level 10 - Unit 25: Advanced Situational Expressions (Saying Goodbye / Wrapping up)
In this lesson, we will look at how to gracefully wrap up a conversation and say goodbye. Saying "μλ ν κ³μΈμ" (Goodbye) out of nowhere can feel abrupt. Native speakers use buffer phrases to signal that they are leaving.
1. Excusing yourself to leave
When you are at a gathering or meeting and need to go. - μ κ° λ¨Όμ μΌμ΄λ λ³΄κ² μ΅λλ€. (I will try getting up first -> I should get going.) - μ€λμ μ΄λ§ κ° λ³Όκ²μ. (I will go for today.) - μκ°μ΄ λ¦μ΄μ μ¬μ¬ κ° λ΄μΌκ² λ€μ. (It's late, so I should slowly get going.)
2. Wrapping up a phone call
Koreans often use specific phrases to end phone conversations smoothly. - κ·ΈλΌ μ΄λ°κ° λ€μ μ°λ½λ릴κ²μ. (Then I will contact you again later.) - λ€, μκ² μ΅λλ€. λ€μ΄κ°μΈμ~ (Yes, understood. Please go in -> A standard polite sign-off on the phone.) - λ€, λμκ²μ. (Yes, I'll hang up now.)
3. Leaving work
When leaving the office while others are still working. - λ¨Όμ ν΄κ·Όνκ² μ΅λλ€. (I will get off work first.) - λ΄μΌ λ΅κ² μ΅λλ€. (See you tomorrow.) - λ¨Όμ λ€μ΄κ° λ³΄κ² μ΅λλ€. μκ³ νμΈμ. (I will go in first. Keep up the good work.)
4. Parting words with a friend
- μ‘°μ¬ν΄μ λ€μ΄κ°. (Go in safely -> Get home safely.)
- λμ°©νλ©΄ μ°λ½ν΄. (Contact me when you arrive.)
- λ€μμ λ λ΄! / λμ€μ 보μ! (See you next time! / See you later!)
Example Dialogue

Did you bring your car?) A: λ€, λ리μ΄μ λΆλ μ΄μ. μ€λ λ무 μ¦κ±°μ μ΅λλ€. λ¨Όμ κ° λ³Όκ²μ. (Yes, I called a designated driver. I had a lot of fun today. I'll get going first.)
