Unit 11: Please (-(아/어/여) 주세요)
Unit 11: Please (-(아/어/여) 주세요)
In Easy Korean, when you want to politely ask someone to do something for you, you use the structure -(아/어/여) 주세요.
How to conjugate
This structure uses the same rules as the present tense (-아요/어요/여요), but instead of adding '요', you add 주세요. '주세요' literally comes from the verb '주다' (to give). So you are asking someone to "give" you the action.
- Verb stem ending in ㅏ or ㅗ: Add -아 주세요.
- 가다 (to go) -> 가 + 아 주세요 = 가 주세요 (Please go)
-
오다 (to come) -> 오 + 아 주세요 = 와 주세요 (Please come)
-
Verb stem ending in other vowels: Add -어 주세요.
- 읽다 (to read) -> 읽 + 어 주세요 = 읽어 주세요 (Please read it for me)
-
만들다 (to make) -> 만들 + 어 주세요 = 만들어 주세요 (Please make it for me)
-
Verbs ending in 하다: Change to 해 주세요.
- 요리하다 (to cook) -> 요리해 주세요 (Please cook for me)
Examples
- 도와주세요! (Please help me!)
