Unit 12: Only (-만)

To say "only" in Easy Korean, you attach the particle -만 directly to a noun.

How to use -만

It's very easy! You just add -만 right after the noun. It doesn't matter if the noun ends in a consonant or a vowel.

  • λ¬Ό (water) -> 물만 (only water)
  • μ € (I/me) -> μ €λ§Œ (only me)
  • 이것 (this one) -> μ΄κ²ƒλ§Œ (only this one)

Important Rule

When you use -만, it usually replaces the subject particles (-은/λŠ”, -이/κ°€) and the object particles (-을/λ₯Ό). - μ €λŠ” 사과λ₯Ό λ¨Ήμ–΄μš”. (I eat an apple.) - μ €λŠ” μ‚¬κ³Όλ§Œ λ¨Ήμ–΄μš”. (I eat only apples.)

Examples

  • 우유만 λ§ˆμ…”μš”. (I only drink milk.)
  • μ˜€λŠ˜μ€ 쑰금만 μΌν•΄μš”. (Today I only work a little bit.)
  • μ €λ§Œ ν•œκ΅μ–΄λ₯Ό κ³΅λΆ€ν•΄μš”. (Only I study Korean.)
