Unit 14: Because, Since (-아/어/여서)
Unit 14: Because, Since (-아/어/여서)
In Easy Korean, when you want to connect two sentences by saying "Because [A], [B]" or "[A], so [B]", you use -아/어/여서.
How to conjugate
It uses the same present tense rules! Just add 서 at the end. - 가다 -> 가요 -> 가서 - 먹다 -> 먹어요 -> 먹어서 - 하다 -> 해요 -> 해서
Structure
[Reason] + 아/어/여서 + [Result]
-
비가 와요. (It rains.) + 집에 있어요. (I am at home.) -> 비가 와서 집에 있어요. (Because it is raining, I am at home.)
-
배가 고파요. (I am hungry.) + 밥을 먹어요. (I eat a meal.) -> 배가 고파서 밥을 먹어요. (I am hungry, so I eat.)
Important Rule!
You cannot use imperative (commands, like "do this") or propositive (suggestions, like "let's do this") sentences after -아/어/여서. You also do not use past or future tense markers before -아/어/여서; the tense is determined by the final verb.
