Unit 15: Similar to, Like (비슷하다, 같다)

How do you compare things in Easy Korean? Let's learn how to say things are "similar" or "the same."

1. 비슷하다 (To be similar)

To say "A is similar to B," you use the particle -(이)랑 or -하고 (with) plus 비슷하다. - 이거랑 저거랑 비슷해요. (This and that are similar.) - 제 가방은 친구 가방하고 비슷해요. (My bag is similar to my friend's bag.)

2. 같다 (To be the same, to be like)

같다 means "to be the same." - 이거랑 저거랑 같아요. (This and that are the same.)

Noun + 같다 (To be like Noun)

When you attach 같다 directly after a noun (without particles like -랑), it means "to be like [Noun]." - 커피 같아요. (It is like coffee / It seems like coffee.) - 거짓말 같아요. (It sounds like a lie.)
