Easy Korean - Unit 25: While doing / -(μΌ)λ©΄μ
Easy Korean Level 4 - Unit 25: While doing / -(μΌ)λ©΄μ
In this lesson, we will learn how to say that two actions are happening at the same time by the same person.
The structure is: -(μΌ)λ©΄μ = "While (doing)"
Conjugation Rules
- Verb stems ending in a vowel: Add -λ©΄μ
- κ°λ€ -> κ°λ©΄μ (while going)
- λ³΄λ€ -> 보면μ (while watching)
- Verb stems ending in a consonant: Add -μΌλ©΄μ
- λ¨Ήλ€ -> λ¨ΉμΌλ©΄μ (while eating)
- μ½λ€ -> μ½μΌλ©΄μ (while reading)
- Verb stems ending in γΉ: Add -λ©΄μ (drop the 'μΌ' rule)
- λ§λ€λ€ -> λ§λ€λ©΄μ (while making)
- λλ€ -> λλ©΄μ (while playing/hanging out)
Usage Rules
- The same person must be doing both actions. You cannot say "While Minsu watched TV, I studied" using this grammar point. (For that, you'd use -λ λμ).
- The tense is expressed in the second/final verb. You do not conjugate the verb attached to -(μΌ)λ©΄μ into the past or future.
