Unit 21: Tend To Be (-(으)ㄴ/는 편이다)
In Easy Korean, when you don't want to make an absolute statement (like "I am tall"), but rather a relative one ("I am on the taller side" or "I tend to be tall"), you use -(으)ㄴ/는 편이다.
Structure
- Adjectives (Present): -(으)ㄴ 편이다
- 크다 -> 큰 편이다 (On the big side)
- 작다 -> 작은 편이다 (On the small side)
- Verbs (Present): -는 편이다
- 먹다 -> 먹는 편이다 (I tend to eat)
- 가다 -> 가는 편이다 (I tend to go)
Note: For verbs, you usually need an adverb like "자주" (often) or "많이" (a lot) for the sentence to make sense.
