Unit 30: Is It True That...? (-다면서요?)

Congratulations on reaching the final lesson of Easy Korean Level 5! Our last grammar point is -다면서요?, which you use when you want to confirm something you heard from someone else. It means "I heard that..., is it true?"

Structure

It uses the same quoting rules we learned in Units 6, 7, and 8, but you add -면서요? instead of -고 하다.

  1. Adjectives: -다면서요? (바쁘다 -> 바쁘다면서요? - I heard you are busy, is it true?)
  2. Verbs: -ㄴ/는다면서요? (가다 -> 간다면서요? - I heard you are going, is it true?)
  3. Nouns: -(이)라면서요? (학생 -> 학생이라면서요? - I heard you are a student, right?)
  4. Past Tense: -았/었/였다면서요? (갔다면서요? - I heard you went?)

  • 내일 한국에 간다면서요? (I heard you are going to Korea tomorrow, is that true?)
  • 두 분이 사귄다면서요? (I heard you two are dating, is it true?)
