Easy Korean - Level 6, Unit 3: One of the most... (가장 ~ 중의 하나)

When you want to emphasize that something is great, but don't want to boldly claim it is the absolute number one, you can say it is "one of the most..."

In Korean, the structure is: 가장 (most) + [Adjective modifier] + [Noun] + 중의 하나 (one of)

Breaking it down

  • 가장 or 제일 = most / best (They are interchangeable).
  • -(으)ㄴ / -는 = Noun modifier for the adjective or verb.
  • 중 (jung) = middle / among
  • 의 (ui) = possessive particle (often pronounced '에' or dropped completely).
  • 하나 (ha-na) = one.

Literal translation: "Among the most [Adjective] [Nouns], it is one."
