Unit 24: I Expected It To... But (-(μΌ)λ ¨λ§)
Unit 24: I Expected It To... But (-(μΌ)λ ¨λ§)
This is a very advanced, poetic, or literary expression. It is short for -(μΌ)리λΌκ³ μκ°νμ§λ§ (I think it will be... but). In Easy Korean, -(μΌ)λ ¨λ§ is used to express a regret or disappointment that a logical expectation or hope did not come true.
Structure
Verb / Adjective Stem + -(μΌ)λ ¨λ§ (Can be used with past tense: -μ/μ/μμΌλ ¨λ§)
- μ€λ€ -> μ€λ ¨λ§ (They should be coming, but...)
- μλ€ -> μλ ¨λ§ (They ought to know, but...)
- μ’μλ€ -> μ’μμΌλ ¨λ§ (It would have been good, but...)
Usage
It shows a contrast between how things should logically be (or how you wish they were) and the disappointing reality.
