Workbook: Unit 5: Pronunciation Rules and Assimilation
Workbook: Unit 5 - Pronunciation Rules
Practice the carry-over rule and assimilation!
Exercise 1: The Carry-over Rule
Write the spoken pronunciation of the following words in Hangul (as if you were spelling it exactly how it sounds).
Example: λ¨μ΄ -> [λ€λ]
- μμ (Music: eum-ak) -> [ ________ ]
- ν μλ²μ§ (Grandfather: hal-a-beo-ji) -> [ ________ ]
- μ»μ΄μ (Wash: ssit-eo-yo) -> [ ________ ]
Exercise 2: The Return of the T-sound
In Unit 4, we learned that γ sounds like 'T' at the bottom. But what happens when it carries over?
Look at the word: λ§ (Taste). It is pronounced [λ§]. Now add μμ΄μ (exists).
λ§μμ΄μ -> How is it pronounced?
Exercise 3: Nasal Assimilation
Apply the nasal assimilation rules to figure out how these words are pronounced! Write the romanized pronunciation.
