Workbook: Easy Korean - Level 9, Unit 16: You could say that... (-(으)ㄴ/는 셈이다)
Easy Korean - Level 9, Unit 16: Workbook
Practice 1: Conjugation
Change the words into the "You could say that..." form. (Pay attention to past vs present).
- 살다 (verb, present - to live) -> __________________ 셈이에요
- 끝났다 (verb, past - finished) -> __________________ 셈이에요
- 같다 (adjective - to be the same) -> __________________ 셈이에요
- 받다 (verb, past - received) -> __________________ 셈이에요
Practice 2: Match the Situation
Match the literal reality with what you could "practically" call it.
- 친구가 내 일을 90% 다 해 주었다. (My friend did 90% of my work.)
- 원가가 5만 원인데 4만 5천 원에 팔았다. (Cost is 50k won, but sold for 45k won.)
- 반값 할인을 받았다. (I got a 50% discount.)
a. 손해를 본 셈이에요. (It's practically taking a loss.) b. 싸게 산 셈이에요. (You could say I bought it cheaply.) c. 친구가 다 한 셈이에요. (You could say my friend did everything.)
Practice 3: Translate to Korean
Translate using -(으)ㄴ/는 셈이에요.
-
You could say it is completely finished. (completely: 다 / finished: 끝나다 -> past!) -> 다 ____________________________________.
-
It is practically free. (free: 공짜 / noun + is: 이다 -> 인 셈이다) -> 공짜____________________________________.
