Easy Korean Level 10 - Unit 30: Course Wrap-up (Sounding like a Native)

Congratulations! You have reached the final lesson of Easy Korean Level 10, and the final lesson of the entire curriculum!

To wrap up, we will look at a few quick tips, abbreviations, and filler words that will instantly make you sound like a native Korean speaker.

1. Filler Words (The Korean "Umm" and "Like")

Native speakers don't speak perfectly. They use fillers to buy time while thinking. - ์Œ... / ์–ด... (Umm... / Uh...) - ๊ทธ... / ์ €๊ธฐ... (Well... / So...) - ์•ฝ๊ฐ„ / ๋ง‰ (Kinda / Like) Example: ์˜ค๋Š˜ ๋‚ ์”จ๊ฐ€ ์•ฝ๊ฐ„... ๋ง‰... ๋น„ ์˜ฌ ๊ฒƒ ๊ฐ™์•„์š”. (Today's weather is kinda... like... it seems it will rain.) - ๋ญ”์ง€ ์•Œ์ฃ ? (You know what I mean?)

2. Common Abbreviations (์ค„์ž„๋ง)

Koreans love to shorten long phrases, especially in texting and casual speech. - ์•Œ๋ฐ” (์•„๋ฅด๋ฐ”์ดํŠธ) = Part-time job - ์น˜๋งฅ (์น˜ํ‚จ + ๋งฅ์ฃผ) = Chicken and beer - ๊ฐ•์ถ” (๊ฐ•๋ ฅ ์ถ”์ฒœ) = Highly recommended - ๊ฟ€์žผ (๊ฟ€ + ์žฌ๋ฏธ) = Honey fun -> Super fun! - ๋…ธ์žผ (No + ์žฌ๋ฏธ) = Not fun at all.

3. Dropping Particles

In textbooks, you learn to always use ์„/๋ฅผ and ์ด/๊ฐ€. In real life, native speakers drop them constantly to speak faster. - Textbook: ์ €๋Š” ๋ฐฅ์„ ๋จน์—ˆ์–ด์š”. - Native: ๋‚˜ ๋ฐฅ ๋จน์—ˆ์–ด. (I ate rice/a meal.) - Textbook: ์ปคํ”ผ๊ฐ€ ๋ง›์žˆ์–ด์š”. - Native: ์ปคํ”ผ ๋ง›์žˆ์–ด์š”. (Coffee is delicious.)

4. Ending Sentences with Nouns or -๋„/-๋งŒ

Sometimes, sentences are left unfinished, ending with a particle for emphasis or softness. - ์ €๋„์š”. (Me too.) - ์กฐ๊ธˆ๋งŒ์š”. (Just a little bit.) - ๋‚ด์ผ์š”? (Tomorrow?)

Learning a language is a lifelong journey. You have built an incredible foundation through these 10 levels. ์ˆ˜๊ณ ํ•˜์…จ์Šต๋‹ˆ๋‹ค! ์•ž์œผ๋กœ๋„ ํ•œ๊ตญ์–ด ๊ณต๋ถ€ ํŒŒ์ดํŒ…! (You've worked hard! Keep fighting with your Korean studies in the future too!)
