Unit 14: To Know / Not Know Whether¶
How do you say "Do you know where it is?" or "I don't know who did it" in Easy Korean? We use the structure -(์ผ)ใด/๋์ง ์๋ค/๋ชจ๋ฅด๋ค.
Structure¶
This grammar turns a question into a clause that acts as the object of ์๋ค (to know) or ๋ชจ๋ฅด๋ค (to not know).
- Action Verbs (Present): -๋์ง
- ๊ฐ๋ค -> ๊ฐ๋์ง ์์์? (Do you know if they are going?)
- ๋จน๋ค -> ๋จน๋์ง ๋ชฐ๋ผ์. (I don't know if they eat.)
- Adjectives (Present): -(์ผ)ใด์ง
- ํฌ๋ค -> ํฐ์ง ์์์? (Do you know if it's big?)
- ์๋ค -> ์์์ง ๋ชฐ๋ผ์. (I don't know if it's small.)
- Past Tense (Both Verbs/Adjectives): -์/์/์๋์ง
- ํ๋ค -> ํ๋์ง ๋ชฐ๋ผ์. (I don't know if they did it.)
Examples¶
- ๊ทธ ์ฌ๋์ด ๋๊ตฌ์ธ์ง ์์์? (Do you know who that person is? - Noun takes ์ธ์ง)
- ํํฐ๊ฐ ์ธ์ ๋๋๋์ง ๋ชฐ๋ผ์. (I don't know when the party ends.)
- ์ด ์์์ด ๋ง์๋์ง ๋ชฐ๋ผ์. (I don't know if this food is delicious. ์/์ takes -๋์ง)
