Unit 5: While You're At It (-(으)ㄴ/는 김에)¶
If you are already doing an action, and you decide to do another action while you're at it or taking advantage of the opportunity, you use -(으)ㄴ/는 김에 in Easy Korean.
Structure¶
- Present Tense (Action you are doing right now): Verb Stem + -는 김에
- 마트에 가는 김에 우유도 사 오세요. (Since you are going to the supermarket anyway, buy some milk too.)
- Past Tense (Action you already did): Verb Stem + -(으)ㄴ 김에
- 청소를 시작한 김에 화장실도 청소했어요. (Since I already started cleaning, I cleaned the bathroom while I was at it.)
Usage¶
It means "since A is already happening/happened, might as well do B."
Examples¶
- 밖에 나온 김에 산책을 할까요? (Since we're already outside, shall we take a walk?)
- 말이 나온 김에 지금 결정합시다. (Since we brought it up, let's decide right now.)
