Unit 18: According To (-에 의하면 / -에 따르면)

When you want to cite a source of information in Easy Korean, you use -에 의하면 or -에 따르면. They both mean "According to [Noun]".

Structure

Noun + -에 의하면 / -에 따르면

• 뉴스 -> 뉴스에 의하면 (According to the news)
• 일기예보 -> 일기예보에 따르면 (According to the weather forecast)
• 전문가 -> 전문가에 의하면 (According to experts)

Connecting to Quotations

Because you are stating information from a source, the end of the sentence MUST use a quoting grammar form! (e.g., -다고 하다)

Examples

• 뉴스에 의하면 내일 비가 온다고 해요. (According to the news, they say it will rain tomorrow.)
• 연구 결과에 따르면 운동은 건강에 좋다고 합니다. (According to research results, they say exercise is good for health.)
