Unit 23: Transferring Action (-아/어/여다가)¶
In Easy Korean, when you do an action in Location A and then transfer the result of that action to Location B, you use -아/어/여다가.
Structure¶
Verb Stem + -아/어/여다가 (It is often shortened to -아/어/여다)
- 사다 (to buy) -> 사다가 (buy it and then take it elsewhere)
- 만들다 (to make) -> 만들어다가 (make it and then bring it elsewhere)
Difference from -고 (and)¶
If you just use -고 (사고 먹었어요 - I bought it and ate it), you could have eaten it at the store. If you use 사다가 먹었어요, it implies you bought it at the store, took it home (or somewhere else), and ate it there!
Examples¶
- 도서관에서 책을 빌려다가 집에서 읽었어요. (I borrowed a book at the library and read it at home.)
- 편의점에서 물을 사다가 마셨어요. (I bought water at the convenience store and took it elsewhere to drink.)
