Unit 16: Practically The Same As (-(으)ㄴ/는 셈이다)¶
In Easy Korean, when something is not exactly 100% true, but the result or situation makes it practically the same, you use -(으)ㄴ/는 셈이다 ("you could say that...", "it is practically...").
Structure¶
- Present Action: Verb Stem + -는 셈이다
- Past Action: Verb Stem + -(으)ㄴ 셈이다
- Adjectives: Adjective Stem + -(으)ㄴ 셈이다
Examples¶
- 10명 중에 9명이 왔으니까 다 온 셈이에요. (9 out of 10 people came, so you could say everyone came / it's practically like everyone came.)
- 매일 운동하니까 건강한 셈이에요. (I exercise every day, so I'm practically healthy.)
- 거의 다 끝났으니까 끝난 셈이에요. (It is almost all finished, so it's practically finished.)
