Level 8 Unit 03: Temporal Interruption & Sequential Discovery (-
This unit refines how you describe actions unfolding in time: discoveries through repetition, incidental detours, and immediate instantaneous transitions.
(Discovery Through Cumulative Repetition)¶
Expresses that if you continuously or repeatedly perform action A over time, you will naturally encounter or discover state B in the future.
Structure:¶
Examples:¶
(If you keep reading Korean news a little every day, your vocabulary will naturally expand.) -
(As you go about living life, anyone is bound to face unexpected trials.) -
(Even in an unfamiliar city, if you keep wandering through alleys, you can discover hidden gems.)
(Incidental Route vs. Seized Opportunity)¶
A. -는 길에 (Physical Transit Route)¶
Used when doing a secondary task while already moving on the geographical pathway to a destination:
(On my way home from work, I will drop by the grocery store and buy some milk.)
(On your way to the bank, could you drop this letter in the mailbox for me?)
B. -는 김에 (Seized Opportunity / Opportunistic Leverage)¶
Used when seizing the momentum/opportunity of action A to conveniently do B:
(While I was vacuuming, I also took the opportunity to rearrange the room layout.)
(While in Seoul on business, I took the opportunity to meet old friends after a long time.)
(Instantaneous Trigger / "The Moment...")¶
An emphatic, vivid synonym for -자마자, expressing that the second action occurred with astonishing speed the split second the first action finished.
Examples:¶
(The split second the dismissal bell rang, students rushed out of the classroom.) -
(No sooner had I opened my eyes in the morning than I immediately checked my email on my phone.) -
(The moment the new product was released, it sold out entirely.)
