Easy Korean Level 4 - Unit 15: Anywhere, Anytime / 아무데나, 아무 때나

In Unit 11, we learned how to say "anyone" (아무나) and "anything" (아무거나). In this lesson, we will expand on the word 아무 and learn how to talk about places and times.

1. 아무데나 (Anywhere)

"데" means "place" or "spot." - 아무 (any) + 데 (place) + 나 = 아무데나 (anywhere, any place) - 이번 주말에 아무데나 가고 싶어요. (I want to go anywhere this weekend.) - 아무데나 앉으세요. (Please sit anywhere.)

2. 아무데도 (Nowhere)

When you want to say "nowhere," you use -도 and a negative verb. - 아무데도 안 갈 거예요. (I am not going to go anywhere. / I will go nowhere.) - 열쇠가 아무데도 없어요. (The key is nowhere. / The key is not anywhere.)

3. 아무 때나 (Anytime)

"때" means "time" or "moment." - 아무 (any) + 때 (time) + 나 = 아무 때나 (anytime) - 내일 아무 때나 오세요. (Please come anytime tomorrow.) - 아무 때나 전화하세요. (Call me anytime.)

Note on Pronunciation and Spacing

  • 아무데나 and 아무데도 are usually written without spaces (or with spaces: 아무 데나).
  • 아무 때나 is written with a space because 때 is an independent noun.
