Unit 17: Thinking of Doing (-(으)ㄹ까 하다)

If you are not 100% sure about your plans, how do you express it? In Easy Korean, we use -(으)ㄹ까 하다 to mean "I am thinking of doing..." or "I might do..."

Structure

Verb Stem + -(으)ㄹ까 하다 (Usually conjugated as 해요)

  1. Vowel: -ㄹ까 해요 (가다 -> 갈까 해요)
  2. Consonant: -을까 해요 (먹다 -> 먹을까 해요)
  3. ㄹ stem: -까 해요 (만들다 -> 만들까 해요)

Nuance

Compared to -(으)려고 해요 (I plan to), -(으)ㄹ까 해요 is much weaker. It means you are just considering it and could easily change your mind.

Examples

  • 주말에 부산에 갈까 해요. (I am thinking of going to Busan on the weekend.)
  • 저녁으로 라면을 먹을까 해요. (I am considering eating ramen for dinner.)
  • 머리를 짧게 자를까 해요. (I am thinking of cutting my hair short.)
