Level 8 conversational Korean incorporates sophisticated cultural etiquette: elegant modesty, peerless emotional emphasis, and solemn humility.

1. -기는 뭘요 / -기는요 (Elegant Native Modesty / Deflecting Compliments)¶

In Korean culture, directly accepting praise ("Yes, I am amazing") can seem boastful. -기는 뭘요 or -기는요 politely deflects praise with natural grace.

Structure:¶

[Compliment Root] + -기는 뭘요 / -기는요

Examples:¶

A: "한국어 발음이 원어민처럼 완벽하시네요!"
B: "완벽하기는 뭘요, 아직 배울 게 훨씬 많은데요."

2. -기 짝이 없다 (Utmost / Incomparable Degree / "Peerlessly...")¶

Expresses that an emotion or condition has reached its absolute peak (literally: "has no pair / no equivalent match").

Structure:¶

[Adjective Stem] + -기 짝이 없다

오랜 친구를 불의의 사고로 떠나보내게 되어 안타깝기 짝이 없습니다.

3. -(으)ㄹ 따름이다 (Solemn Humility / "Can Only... / Nothing More Than...")¶

Expresses deep humility, reverence, or solemn resignation: stating that the speaker is merely doing or feeling one thing, with no other pretension.

[Verb/Adj Stem] + -(으)ㄹ 따름이다

도와주신 모든 분들께 그저 감사할 따름입니다.
