Unit 2: To Look, To Seem (-아/어/여 보이다)¶
When you want to say someone or something "looks" a certain way based on their appearance or your visual impression, you use -아/어/여 보이다 in Easy Korean.
Structure¶
Adjective Stem + -아/어/여 보이다
It uses the same present-tense conjugation rules, just replacing '요' with 보이다. - 피곤하다 (to be tired) -> 피곤해 + 보이다 = 피곤해 보이다 (to look tired) - 바쁘다 (to be busy) -> 바빠 + 보이다 = 바빠 보이다 (to look busy) - 맛있다 (to be delicious) -> 맛있어 + 보이다 = 맛있어 보이다 (to look delicious)
Note: This ONLY works with adjectives! You cannot use this with action verbs like "look like you are eating."
Examples¶
- 오늘 아주 피곤해 보여요. (You look very tired today.)
- 이 케이크가 정말 맛있어 보이네요. (This cake looks really delicious.)
- 그 옷을 입으니까 더 젊어 보여요. (You look younger wearing those clothes.)
