Easy Korean Level 4 - Unit 11: Anyone, Anything / 아무나, 아무것도¶
In this lesson, we will learn how to say "anyone" and "anything," as well as "no one" and "nothing" using the word 아무 (any).
1. 아무나 (Anyone / Anybody)¶
To say "anyone" in a positive context, you add -나 to 아무. - 아무 (any) + 나 = 아무나 (anyone, whoever) - 아무나 올 수 있어요. (Anyone can come.) - 아무나 괜찮아요. (Anyone is fine.)
2. 아무도 (No one / Nobody)¶
To say "no one" in a negative context, you add -도 (also/even) to 아무, and you must use a negative verb (안, 못, 없다, etc.). - 아무 (any) + 도 = 아무도 (not even anyone -> no one) - 집에 아무도 없어요. (There is no one at home.) - 아무도 안 왔어요. (No one came.)
3. 아무거나 (Anything)¶
"거" means "thing" (short for 것). So to say "anything," you say "any thing." - 아무 (any) + 거 + 나 = 아무거나 (anything, whatever) - 아무거나 주세요. (Please give me anything.) - 아무거나 먹어도 돼요. (You can eat anything.)
4. 아무것도 (Nothing)¶
To say "nothing," you add -도 to "아무것" and use a negative verb. - 아무 (any) + 것 + 도 = 아무것도 (not even anything -> nothing) - 아무것도 몰라요. (I don't know anything. / I know nothing.) - 아무것도 안 샀어요. (I bought nothing.)
