Unit 23: Or (-(이)나)

In Easy Korean, when you want to link two nouns with "or" (giving a choice), you use the particle -(이)나.

Rules

  • Nouns ending in a vowel: Add -나
  • 커피나 녹차 (Coffee or green tea)
  • 버스나 택시 (Bus or taxi)
  • Nouns ending in a consonant: Add -이나
  • 물이나 주스 (Water or juice)
  • 밥이나 빵 (Rice or bread)

How to use it in a sentence

You just attach it to the first noun. - 아침에 빵이나 밥을 먹어요. (In the morning, I eat bread or rice.) - 주말에 토요일이나 일요일에 만나요. (Let's meet on the weekend, on Saturday or Sunday.)

Note: -(이)나 can only be used to connect nouns. Connecting verbs with "or" uses a different grammar structure (-거나).
