Unit 29: Due To (-(으)로 인해서)

In Level 2, we learned "때문에" for "because of." In news and formal writing, you will hear -(으)로 인해서 instead. It means "due to" or "caused by" in Easy Korean.

Structure

Noun + -(으)로 인해서 (Can be shortened to -(으)로 인해)

  1. Vowel: -로 인해서 (사고 -> 사고로 인해서 - Due to the accident)
  2. Consonant: -으로 인해서 (태풍 -> 태풍으로 인해서 - Due to the typhoon)

Usage

It is strictly used for nouns. If you want to use a verb, you must change it to a noun first.

Examples

  • 태풍으로 인해서 비행기가 취소되었습니다. (Due to the typhoon, flights have been canceled.)
  • 스트레스로 인해 병에 걸렸어요. (I got sick due to stress.)
  • 지진으로 인해서 많은 피해가 발생했습니다. (A lot of damage occurred due to the earthquake.)
