Unit 24: I Thought / I Didn't Know

How do you say "I thought it was raining" or "I didn't know you were here" in Easy Korean? You use -(์œผ)ใ„ด/๋Š”/(์œผ)ใ„น ์ค„ ์•Œ๋‹ค (I thought/knew) or ๋ชจ๋ฅด๋‹ค (I didn't know).

Structure

This is usually used in the past tense at the end (์•Œ์•˜์–ด์š” / ๋ชฐ๋ž์–ด์š”). 1. Present Action: -๋Š” ์ค„ ์•Œ์•˜์–ด์š”/๋ชฐ๋ž์–ด์š” - ๋น„๊ฐ€ ์˜ค๋‹ค -> ๋น„๊ฐ€ ์˜ค๋Š” ์ค„ ์•Œ์•˜์–ด์š”. (I thought it was raining.) 2. Present State (Adjectives): -(์œผ)ใ„ด ์ค„ ์•Œ์•˜์–ด์š”/๋ชฐ๋ž์–ด์š” - ๋น„์‹ธ๋‹ค -> ๋น„์‹ผ ์ค„ ๋ชฐ๋ž์–ด์š”. (I didn't know it was expensive.) 3. Future / Assumption: -(์œผ)ใ„น ์ค„ ์•Œ์•˜์–ด์š”/๋ชฐ๋ž์–ด์š” - ์˜ค๋‹ค -> ์˜ฌ ์ค„ ๋ชฐ๋ž์–ด์š”. (I didn't know you would come.)

Examples

  • ์˜ค๋Š˜ ์‰ฌ๋Š” ๋‚ ์ธ ์ค„ ์•Œ์•˜์–ด์š”. (I thought today was a day off. Noun + ์ธ ์ค„)
  • ํ•œ๊ตญ์–ด๊ฐ€ ์ด๋ ‡๊ฒŒ ์–ด๋ ค์šธ ์ค„ ๋ชฐ๋ž์–ด์š”. (I didn't know Korean would be this difficult.)
