Unit 4: And, With (하고, -(이)랑)¶
While '그리고' connects sentences, we need different words to connect nouns. Let's learn how to say "and" or "with" to link nouns in Easy Korean.
1. 하고¶
하고 is attached right after a noun. It is used in conversational Korean and is very easy because it doesn't change based on consonants or vowels.
- 빵하고 우유 (Bread and milk)
- 친구하고 영화를 봐요. (I watch a movie with a friend.)
2. -(이)랑¶
-(이)랑 is another very common conversational way to say "and" or "with." - After a vowel: Add -랑 - 사과랑 바나나 (Apple and banana) - After a consonant: Add -이랑 - 수박이랑 딸기 (Watermelon and strawberry)
"With" vs "And"¶
How do you know if it means "and" or "with"? Context! - 빵하고 우유를 샀어요. (I bought bread and milk.) -> Both are objects. - 친구하고 빵을 먹었어요. (I ate bread with a friend.) -> Friend is the companion.
